Dedicated to the memory of David Drake

David lived a very full life! He spent his whole career working for British Coal (formerly the National Coal Board), having graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Mining Engineering. He worked his way up from Shotfirer to Colliery Manager of two pits, and then on to Senior Mining Engineer.

He married twice, adopting two children (Adam and Elizabeth) in his first marriage to Susan, and gaining two step-children (Karen and Neil) in his second marriage to Shirley.

He was an avid rugby player (Market Bosworth Rugby Club) and supporter (Leicester Tigers), attending hundreds of games across the country and international games (supporting England) across Europe.

He was a dedicated hill-walker, walking thousands of miles over the decades, completing the Pennine way, the Coast to Coast, the Three Peaks, the Cotswold way and pretty-much every raised mound of earth that resembled a hill or mountain in England, Scotland and Wales.

He loved Real Ale, and was a lifelong member and supporter of CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale).

He was an incredibly kind and loyal friend to many - he made friends while working at British Coal, he made friends while playing rugby at Market Bosworth Rugby Club, he made friends during his decades of hill-walking and he made friends in the many public houses he frequented, as he took his ambassadorial role at CAMRA very seriously. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by many, many people.

He is survived by his first wife, Susan, his son Adam, his step-children Karen and Neil, and five loving grand-children.
