Tributes to David Drake

Created by Hywel 3 years ago

I was one of the founder members of Market Bosworth Rugby Club in 1966. I became club captain after Derek Fell (the first captain) left for pastures new in 1968 .

David was an excellent wing forward and could have played at a higher standard than we played at Market Bosworth during the early days of the club. He was a fearless tackler and always got on with the game without any fuss. David's name was always first on the team sheet at the selection committee meetings.

I left Market Bosworth in January 1975 and now live in South Wales. I have returned there on a number of occasions to attend some of the regular functions that have been organised. I always made a point of looking for David to have a chat about our activities whenever I was there. He and Susan were great friends during the time I was at Market Bosworth.

I  wish to extend my most sincere condolences to his family and friends. What a big loss for all to lose such a fine and pleasant man. I very much regret that it will not possible for me to attend his funeral under the present circumstances.

May you rest in peace David
