My favorite uncle . . .

Created by tim 3 years ago

David was my mother Elsa's favorite brother. To be honest David was the only brother she had , but i know she was immensely fond and proud of him. To me Uncle David was this friendly and gentle man with a great sense of humour who my sister and i would see every couple of years as we grew up.                                                                                                                                                            My fondest memory of David was when he and Adam visited me and my children, (Christopher and Lindsey) many years ago in Berkshire where  they were walking The Ridgway long distance foot path. It was a warm summers evening and David and Adam entertained us all with funny stories late into the evening. (the kids were in awe of Adam!).We all still remember that evening with great fondness.                                                                                                                                                                                            In later years i remember my mother having regular phone conversations with David where they would mull over how they had each done in that days Daily Telegraph crossword. They usually seemed to be pretty much on a par with each other but i knew secretly mum thought that David was "pushing the spirit" shall we say of crosswords by using the dictionary for clues ,but she never let on !                    Although i knew of his love for real ale i never managed to go  for a "pint" with David, (i wish i had as i know it would have been good fun) but i will raise a glass to him  . . when its safe to do so!

Cheers David, you were a true gentleman.
